Mr. Doorasamy, an experienced litigator and businessman, began his legal career more than 23 years ago as a prosecutor. To date he has litigated thousands of criminal trials. He represented clients charged with serious felonies, including, first degree murder, rape, robbery, white collar crime,  drug trafficking and many other serious criminal charges.

He gained national prominence as the chairman of the first statutory Gambling Board in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. He was the youngest person to be appointed by the Premier (Governor) and his Executive Council to this high profile position. His board solicited, evaluated and adjudicated fifteen mega-resort casino license applications and licensed the first ever, five exclusive casinos in post-apartheid South Africa’s most populous province. These casinos included Sibaya Casino, Golden Horse Casino, Suncoast Casino, Monte Vista Casino Resort, and Peermont Casino. This resulted in the creation of the second-largest gambling jurisdiction on the continent of Africa. He was then nominated by the Premier and appointed by the National Minister of Trade and Industry to sit on the National Gambling Board of South Africa that oversees all casinos and gambling in South Africa. He was also the foremost limited payout gambling machine consultant in South Africa and consulted extensively for the KwaZulu-Natal Gambling Board on appointing the Province’s first central monitoring system operator for limited payout machines. He also represented many clients who wanted to invest in the gambling industry in South Africa.

Mr. Doorasamy was also appointed by the Minister of Environmental Affairs to sit on the prestigious Nature Conservation Board that oversees government game reserves and nature conservatories. Additionally, Mr. Doorasamy chaired a government committee that managed marine coastal issues on the Indian Ocean side of South Africa.  He spearheaded South Africa’s first International Environmental Law Conference in 1997. The conference was fully funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development.

Since immigrating to the United States and establishing a law practice in Winston-Salem, Mr. Doorasamy has concentrated on all areas of immigration, criminal and international law. He assists clients with deportation and removal defense, all types of immigrant and non-immigrant visas, including, green cards and citizenship, employment and family immigration, waivers and appeals.

Mr. Doorasamy is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, North Carolina State Bar, North Carolina Bar Association, and Forsyth County/21st Judicial District Bar. He is also admitted and on the roll of advocates in South Africa. He sits on several legal committees, one of which he chairs and on one commission, which he chairs.  He holds a master’s degree in international law from American University, Washington College of Law (Fulbright Scholar), as well as LL.B and B. Juris law degrees from the University of Durban, South Africa.

Mr. Doorasamy is an ordained minister. He began preaching when he was just eight years old and was the lay pastor of a church for seven years. He has a doctorate in Religious Education and a doctorate in Theology and an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree for his outstanding contribution to motivating and uplifting people through his ministry for three decades.
